Residents of Varenna live in beautiful homes on our 29 acre campus in the upper east Fountaingrove neighborhood in Santa Rosa, Ca. Its namesake, Varenna, Italy, is a small historic village located on the romantic shores of Lake Como. Inspired by the beauty and intimate sense of community of its Italian counterpart, Varenna’s buildings and casitas were designed to take advantage of the temperate climate and sweeping views of its Santa Rosa location in the Wine Country foothills. 

Sonoma County is blessed with clean air and a Mediterranean climate that invites outdoor activities year round. Our campus is designed to encourage the same. Each home or apartment has a patio or deck to expand living space.

Walking paths throughout the Varenna campus connect the various structures and outdoor amenities and include a meandering path leading to Fountaingrove Lake. A private dock and canoes are provided for residents to enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings. Varenna boasts one of Northern California’s only trams which traverses the campus hillside, for residents who prefer to ride up and down to the lake rather than walk.

The campus design provides residents with opportunities for both social and solitary pursuits. An impressive resident garden can be found in full bloom and production in the summer months. The property is landscaped with a large variety of both native and exotic species which enhance the already beautiful surroundings. Our bocce court tucked within the landscape is the site of popular resident games and tournaments.

Our nearest neighbor is the private Fountaingrove Golf and Country Club, and we are just minutes from medical, recreational and cultural activities.
